Instruction is provided in several ways:

Small Group Classes – Classes meet during our Spring and Fall semesters at in-person satellite class locations and online via Zoom. Classes are led by the PBALC staff and volunteer instructors. Although classes consist of approximately 6-12 students, each student will benefit from individualized instruction, as well as a group atmosphere.

Self-Paced – Self-paced learning is for those students who are unable to utilize any type of instruction we provide in-house based on personal reasons but would still like to receive help to reach their goals. PBALC offers a variety of educational computer-based programming that allows our students to work online at their convenience from any location.

One-to-One Tutoring – A volunteer tutor is matched with a student based on the student’s needs and availability. As a pair, they decide on a meeting schedule that best suits both of them. Typically, the pair meets for one to two hours per week at a location the PBALC staff has deemed safe. Numerous community partners provide locations for one-to-one meetings.

To become a Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center student and receive services, you must first enroll with us. You can do this by applying at the bottom of this page and completing the Student Enrollment Application. After you complete and submit your application, our Program Director will contact you to schedule a time for an Enrollment Appointment. During your appointment, you will complete your enrollment paperwork, take an assessment to determine your level, and choose your classes. This will help us give you everything you need to meet your goals.

All students must pay a once-yearly, nonrefundable $25 Student Enrollment Fee through the PBALC website. This fee covers the cost of group classes and/or one-to-one tutoring. Students may be required to purchase their own books and class materials as needed.
