Become a Student
The Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center staff, along with a devoted team of volunteers, is available to help you reach your literacy goals year-round. These goals may include learning English, improving your reading and writing or becoming a U.S. citizen.
To become a student with Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Demonstrate a need for literacy (based on assessment) and desire to learn
- Be willing to commit to at least 2 hours of instructional time per week
- Show progress in meeting your goals

Norma Velasco
Student since March 2018
Norma applied with us on the recommendation of a classmate. She entered with the goal of becoming more proficient in English and has made tremendous progress in a very short time. Norma recently received her permanent residency and is currently attending class to attain her citizenship. She is also preparing to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), which will allow her to enroll in college.
